What is the difference between Defect and Failure?

Defect: - Defect can be flaw in the software application or the flaw in the functional specification.

A mistake in coding is called error,error found by tester is
called defect

Failure :- The inability of a system or component to perform 
its required functions within specified performance 
requirements.
